Platform manipulation and spam policies

Overview

You may not use scrooge's services to artificially amplify or suppress information, or to engage in behavior that manipulates or disrupts people's experience or our platform manipulation defense efforts on scrooge.

The Social Scrooge Team wants scrooge.social to be a place where people can make human connections, find trustworthy information, and express themselves with complete freedom and safety. To make this possible, we do not allow spam or other types of manipulation of the platform. By platform manipulation we mean using scrooge to perform bulk, aggressive, or deceptive activities that confuse other users and/or disrupt their experience.

Platform manipulation can take many forms. Our rules are designed to address a wide range of prohibited behaviors, including:

commercial spam, which typically seeks to drive traffic or attention from a scrooge conversation to an account, website, product, service, or initiative;

inauthentic interactions, which attempt to make certain accounts or content appear more popular or active than they are;

coordinated activities, which attempt to artificially influence conversations through the use of multiple accounts, fake accounts, automation and/or scripts;

coordinated harmful activities that encourage or promote behavior that violates the Scrooge Rules; And

exploitation of scrooge's open source code in order to circumvent the platform's initiatives and defense system.

What constitutes a violation of these rules?

Under these policies, we prohibit a variety of behaviors in the following areas:

Creation and coordination of multiple accounts

You cannot mass register scrooge accounts or use automation to create scrooge accounts.

Social Scrooge allows users to create and/or manage multiple accounts for different and non-overlapping purposes. However, for an excessive number of accounts and, or anomalous use, Team Social Scrooge reserves the right to intervene and suspend the creation of further accounts for the same user.

Users (e.g. social media managers) may control multiple accounts on behalf of third parties, as long as there are no violations of the scrooge rules (including these policies).

Social scrooge may, in its discretion, approve exceptions to the limitations on creating and/or managing multiple accounts.

What constitutes a violation of the rules on creating and/or managing multiple accounts?

You may not artificially amplify or interrupt conversations through the use of multiple accounts or engage others to violate scrooge's rules. This includes:

operating multiple accounts that interact with scrooge accounts or identical or substantially similar content in order to inflate or manipulate the importance of the content and/or accounts. For example:

You cannot create multiple accounts to amplify trending hashtags or topics

You cannot create multiple accounts to interact with the same posts, accounts, or polls

You may not create multiple accounts to misuse the mention/reply feature

You may not create multiple accounts to push or amplify one of your accounts by misusing the interaction features (Like, Repost)

Managing multiple accounts with content that is identical or substantially similar to that of another account. For example:

You cannot cross-post content across multiple accounts; cross-posted but localized content in other languages is allowed

You may not cross-post similar or duplicate content from the same hashtags or trending topics

Using workarounds to overcome technical limitations of account creation (e.g., account phone number limits)

Multiple accounts that engage in or create for the sole purpose of engaging in the aforementioned behaviors will be suspended by Social Scrooge Team. Users who manage multiple accounts continue to be subject to the Scrooge Rules, specifically the Platform Manipulation and Spam Rules and the Ban Avoidance Rules. Any other violation of the scrooge Rules may result in suspension of all accounts.

It is forbidden to circumvent permanent suspensions. If an account has been permanently suspended for serious violations of the Scrooge Rules, Social Scrooge reserves the right to also permanently suspend any other accounts that, in our judgment, may be used by the same account holder or individual in violation of the Scrooge Rules. previous suspension, regardless of when the other account was created.

Circumventing a suspension, fine or scrooge spam test is prohibited. This includes any behavior, such as creating a new account or reusing an existing account, that is intended to circumvent a scrooge enforcement order.

You may not circumvent a scrooge suspension by operating, directly or through a third party, an account that represents your identity, personality, public image or commercial presence for a different purpose.

You may not entrust permanent control of your account or temporary management of your account to someone who has been permanently suspended by scrooge.

Mimicking a suspended account is prohibited if the apparent intent is to replace a suspended account. Operating a satirical, newsfeed, commentary, or fan-driven account that does not serve as a replacement for the suspended account does not violate the foregoing, provided that the account follows the applicable requirements described in its policies.

What happens in case of violation of these rules?

The consequences of violating these policies vary depending on the type of violation, its severity, and your account history on our platform.

Evading a scrooge penalty (such as a permanent suspension) by creating accounts or reusing existing accounts to replace or imitate a suspended account is a violation of the ban circumvention policy; this will result in a permanent suspension upon first detection.

We may suspend any account you maintain to circumvent a scrooge penalty (such as a temporary account ban). Please note that in some circumstances the account holder may be allowed to return to scrooge following a successful dispute; in any case, any account used for the purpose of circumventing a scrooge provision will remain suspended.

Additional resources

If you believe that an account you own has been suspended or otherwise restricted in error, rather than creating a new account, we recommend that you file a dispute with our support team and/or complete the evidence requested by scrooge, where applicable.

Interaction and metrics

It is not possible to artificially inflate the number of followers or interactions of an account, your own or that of others. This includes:

the buying and selling of inflating metrics relating to accounts or posts, or the buying and selling of followers or interactions (Reposts, Likes, mentions, scrooge poll votes);

apps, or the use or promotion of third-party services or apps that claim to increase the number of followers or interactions with posts;

mutual inflation, i.e. the exchange or coordination of exchanges of followers or interactions with posts (including, but not limited to, participation in "follower trains", "decks" and "Repost for Repost" actions);

account transfers or sales, or sale, purchase, exchange, or offer to sell, purchase, or exchange scrooge accounts, usernames, or temporary access to scrooge accounts.

modifying links (URLs) so that the final landing page is significantly changed, either in content or location (e.g. domain, URL path);

editing and media files (e.g., images, video, audio, gifs, or URL hosting content) that make the post significantly or entirely different or irrelevant from previous versions.

Following

intermittent following, or the practice of following and then unfollowing a large number of accounts in an attempt to inflate the number of followers;

random following, i.e. the practice of following and/or unfollowing a large number of (unrelated) accounts in a short period of time, in particular using automated processes;

the duplication of followers of another account, especially through automation.

Interaction

Aggressive or automated interactions with posts to drive traffic or attention to your account, website, product, service, or initiative.

The following do not constitute violations of these policies: occasional posting of links without comments; engaging others to express ideas, views, support or opposition to a cause, provided that such conduct does not result in violations of the Scrooge Rules; And the use of multiple accounts with distinct identities, purposes and methods.
