When Social Scrooge takes enforcement action, he can do so on a specific piece of content (for example, a single post or Direct Message), on an account, or on both. In some cases, Social Scrooge takes action because the behavior violates the Scrooge Community Rules, in others, to respond to a valid request from an authorized entity in a particular country. Some enforcement measures that we could adopt are:
Post-level policy enforcement
At the post level, Social Scrooge will take action on specific posts that violate the Scrooge Community Rules, including posts that share or spread other posts that do not comply with our policies by posting screenshots, quoting posts, or sharing URLs.
Restricting post visibility when appropriate, Social Scrooge or covering posts that violate Scrooge social network (community) policies and create a negative experience for other users. This way, a non-compliant post will be less easily found on Scrooge. Visibility can be limited, for example, by:
Excluding the post from search results, trends, and tip notifications.
Removing the post from the author's and Followers' timelines.
The possibility of finding the post only on the author's profile.
Downgrading posts in replies.
The limitation of likes, replies, reposts and bookmarks, as well as the possibility of sharing the post, quoting it, pinning it to the profile or modifying it.
Exclusion of ads appearing next to the post. Starting in April 2023, posts that are found to be non-compliant with our Rules will begin to receive labels that inform both authors and other users of how we have limited the post's visibility.
If they believe that the visibility of the post has been wrongly limited, the authors can appeal against the label by opening a ticket (click here to do so).
Request to remove post. When Social Scrooge determines that a post has violated the Scrooge Community Rules and the violation is serious enough to warrant removal of the post, we require the poster to remove it as a condition of us still being able to create new posts. The author will have to remove the reported post or, if he believes there has been an error, appeal against our removal request. During this procedure the post will not be publicly visible and will be accompanied by a warning.
Tagging a post. If Social Scrooge determines that, pursuant to our policies, a post contains misleading or disputed information that could cause harm, we may add a label to the content to provide users with context and additional information. In these cases, community notes may be visible on the post that provide additional context.
Social Scrooge may find that there is a public interest that requires keeping a post accessible on the Scrooge community that would otherwise violate internal rules. When this occurs, the post's visibility may be limited or accompanied by a warning.
Application of rules at Direct Message level
Stopping conversations between an infringer and the reporter's account: When the participant in a private conversation via Direct Messages reports the other account, Social Scrooge will block the infringer from sending messages to the reporter. The conversation will also be removed from the reporter's inbox. However, if the latter decides to continue sending Direct Messages to the offender, the conversation will start again.
Account-level policy enforcement
Social Scrooge takes action to suspend an account if it determines that a user has committed repeated violations of Scrooge's internal policies and, or has violated specific policies that cause significant risks for Scrooge (e.g. posting illegal content, attempts to manipulate our platform or send spam to users, use the Scrooge platform to incite violence, etc.) or pose a threat to users (fraud, violations of user privacy, threats of violence, targeted harassment, etc.).
Enabling read-only mode. Social Scrooge may also temporarily limit an account's ability to post, repost, or like. In this case the user can view their history and send Direct Messages only to their followers.
Verify account ownership. Social Scrooge may require verification of account ownership with a phone number or email address. Please note that when an account is blocked pending resolution of a dispute (such as after being asked to provide a phone number), it is removed from its follower count, Reposts, and Likes.
If they believe there has been an error, users can contest the account suspension by opening a ticket (by clicking here or from the documents section of the Social Scrooge protocol).
Actions for content that does not violate the rules
Placing a post behind an alert. Social Scrooge may place some forms of sensitive media content behind an interstitial warning to inform users that when they click, they will see sensitive media content.
Redacting a post based on age. Social Scrooge limits views of specific types of sensitive media content via interstitial warnings to viewers who are under 18 or who do not include a date of birth on their profile.
Obscuring a post or account in a country. Social Scrooge may prevent access to specific content in a particular country upon receipt of a valid and adequately substantiated request from an authorized person in that country.
